We're not just jumping on the latest eco-powered bandwagon
Culinary Crafts has always tried to be a good ecological steward — by following values learned in our childhood such as “Waste not, want not”. In many ways it's simply how we've always done business. “When you cater for thousands of people a year, you really see your impact up-close and personal!” exclaim Mary and Ron. “We feel a real responsibility to do everything we can to preserve the wonderful environment we have here in Utah.”
Here are just a few ways we're trying to make a difference
We love local
We use and actively promote locally produced foods and culinary products. This reduces the environmental impact of transporting food, while supporting our local economy by keeping more dollars in our great state.
We're on a low-carbon diet
We are reducing our carbon footprint in two ways:
1.
Culinary Crafts is 100-percent wind-powered through the Blue Sky Program, which means all of the electricity we use is offset by wind-power energy that we purchase.
2.
Several years ago we began recycling our used cooking oil into biodiesel which we use, in part, to fuel our catering trucks and vans. Biodiesel helps reduce air pollution and decreases the need for fossil fuel.
We're all about old-fashioned, all-natural cooking
We cook from scratch with all-natural ingredients. This means we employ more chefs and bakers because we do things by hand rather than buying prepared or frozen ingredients, and we use organic ingredients whenever possible. This results in higher quality products for our clients and a lower environmental impact.
We recycle, and offer “bio-sensible” disposables
All of our cardboard, paper and aluminum is recycled; our glass and plastic is recycled when possible. We even offer two new lines of biodegradable disposable-ware, one made from corn starch and one from sustainably harvested bamboo.
Our environmental efforts are a humble start, but they come from the heart. Sometimes they are not the easiest route to take, but we've found them to be the best for our business and best for the community that has given us so much.
