Salt Lake/Park City Bride & Groom Feature – Wedding In The Woods | Wednesday Wisdom

Wednesday, 23 January, 2013

Still so enchanted with the beauty of the local bridal magazines and blushing from the wedding we were a part of that were published, we have another to share with you today!  This beauty from Salt Lake/Park City Bride & Groom magazine is just exquisite!  And with vendors like Events by LMG, Layers Cake, and Honey of a Thousand Flowers – we expected nothing short of AMAZING!  Check it out!

Here’s one of the GORGEOUS layouts from the magazine – with images by Jesse Erasmus Photography.

The bridal party went neutral, but far from boring!  We loved the mix of tones, patterns, and style to let each person show of their own style.

This fresh and simple cake from Layers Cake was a perfect fit for this elegant reception.  Plus, the invitation suite (designed by the talented bride) featured laser cut detailing – we are in LOVE!

Another favorite detail was the woodland creature place settings.  They looked whimsical and beautiful – a perfect match!

Check out this STUNNING reception – the Events by LMG crew are just flawless!  We loved the strung lights, vineyard tables, and gorgeous florals from Honey of a Thousand Flowers.  This was truly a unique and beautiful wedding!  A heartfelt thanks to Jessica and Dan for letting us partake in their celebration and we are also so thankful to Salt Lake/Park City Bride & Groom for featuring this wedding!

Natural & Elegant Wedding | Trendy Tuesday

Tuesday, 17 July, 2012

Happy Monday everyone!!!  To celebrate the wedding season, I wanted to share a wedding with you that is simply AMAZING.  Elegant, gorgeous, stylish, and of course, full of delicious food from yours truly!  Mara Marian-Harwood of Events by LMG designed this stunning wedding which was held at the Salt Lake Hardware building in the heart of downtown. She really utilized the space’s inherent beauty to create a contemporary event full of natural touches and chic finishes – and it was all flawless, as usual!  Take a look!

Vineyard tables and bench seating create a cozy, family-style feel to the event while chic lounge seating allow guests to mingle and relax while having a fabulous evening.  The simple and gorgeous centerpieces give a sense of elegance, yet stay low so people can see each other and talk without obtrusive arrangements.  I love the use of varying linens to give it a cohesive yet eclectic feel!

The romantic vibe was carried through by the use of lots of candles, soft strung lights, and pretty crystal votives hung from the ceiling.  The overall feeling was warm and inviting, even in such a large space.

Butler passed hors d’oeuvres were an upscale touch to keep the guests mingling and their hunger satisfied!

The bride a groom created custom action stations with their favorite foods to share with guests – SO CUTE!  Plus the custom signage was beautiful and let the guests know the menu choices!

I love the milk and cookie shooters!  Such a fun twist on a comfort classic.

This wedding was a show-stopper for sure, which goes to prove that simple and elegant don’t always have to be boring or something you’ve seen before.  Sometimes sticking with natural, yet beautiful touches can go a long way to creating an event that your guests won’t soon forget!  And, as always, having a wedding planner extraordinaire like Mara doesn’t hurt either!!!

We’d also like to mention that we so EXCITED to see this wedding featured in the newest issue of Salt Lake/Park City Bride and Groom – which is out on newsstands now!  Such a gorgeous wedding and it fits in perfectly with the other AMAZING weddings and features we have come to expect from the SLPC Bride and Groom team and we are so thrilled to have been a part of it!  Go pick up a copy of Salt Lake/Park City Bride and Groom and as always, happy planning everyone!

Exciting News and A Wedding! | Trendy Tuesday

Tuesday, 22 May, 2012

Today, we have exciting news to share with you!  Mara Marian-Harwood of Events by LMG (who we love!) has taken over private event sales of the historic (and GORGEOUS) Salt Lake Hardware building in downtown Salt Lake City!  This space is an unsung hero of venues in the downtown area and we are so excited to see Mara take it and get the word out!  We love this venue and you can see past blogs of the events we’ve done there here and here.  We even have a new wedding to show you that was held here and catered by yours truly!  This wedding was chock full of delicious food, custom details, and a bright and poppy color palette!  Take a look!

The Salt Lake Hardware building is SERIOUSLY a gem of a venue. Exposed brick, rough hewn beams, heavens scraping high ceilings with giant skylights, vintage tile work, and gorgeous architectural details throughout, it is a one of a kind building for all out of this world events!

The pizza was tailored specifically for the couple!  Pear and gorgonzola,  finnochiona salame and black olive, and traditional margherita – all were stellar!

These desserts were AMAZING and had something for everyone!  Culinary Crafts’s housemade gelato was butler passed to the guests who had the choice of lemon sorbetto or pistachio (or both!)  As if that wasn’t delicious enough, they also had their pick of the chipotle chocolate cupcakes, red velvet cupcakes, strawberry shortcakes, and fresh fruit tarts – plus guests were given custom labelled favors of rich and delicious caramel corn from the Nutty Kernal!  Yum!

If you are looking for a venue that is like no other and is centrally located in downtown Salt Lake, look no further!  The Salt Lake Hardware building is diverse, beautiful, and amazing – plus Mara is great to work with!  We are so excited to see this space take of under her management!  (Also stay tuned for news of another downtown venue that will be opening soon involving yours truly!)  Happy planning everyone!

Wednesday Wisdom: Top 10 Holiday Party Planning Tips

Wednesday, 9 November, 2011

Hi all!  Today I am thrilled to announce our guest blogger, Mara Marian-Harwood, who you may know as the creative tour de force behind Events by LMG.  I always love the events and styling tips that Mara has and what she has shared with us today is no exception!  Each tip is excellent and will definitely help any hostess or host with their holiday party!  Take a look!

Top 10 Holiday Party Planning Tips | Mara Marian-Harwood, Events by LMG

1. Steer Clear of Your Kitchen I love to cook and bake, preparing food for my friends and family is something I truly enjoy. I almost never give up my kitchen to anyone else, except when I am entertaining a large group in my home. It’s an entirely different challenge to prepare dinner and hors d’oeuvres for a few guests than to prepare food and hors d’oeuvres for a large group. It’s impossible to act the part of a gracious hostess if you’re busy watching platters and refilling confections. Allow a catering team to handle the food for you, so you can enjoy the food- and the party! Don’t forget that hostess is your role at your holiday party, to greet and entertain guests.

2. How to be a Hostess The part of a great hostess begins before the party starts. Balance your guest list with couples and single folks. Don’t make a big deal of the single guests, going out of your way to introduce every single person who crosses your path to another makes for particularly awkward exchanges. Single adults will find one another, without your assistance. Be sure to create a fun and comfortable environment that promotes mingling and the rest will take care of itself.

3. No Wallflower Zone The right music, décor and lighting paired with great food and drinks will make for a fun and festive environment. Don’t make the mistake of putting the food right next to the bar. Be sure to split these areas up to keep guests moving. If your home is large enough, multiple bars and food stations are ideal.

4. Some Like it Hot! Be sure to offer a variety of beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. A hot beverage bar is a great interactive-entertainment option for guests, separate from a traditional cocktail bar.  Hot spiced-cider, warm cocoa and hot toddies can all be dressed by guests. Be sure to work with your caterer to get a great selection of colored sugars, cinnamon sticks, marshmallows and peppermint sticks for your guests to add to their drinks. Specialty glassware and mugs can be rented locally to make each of these beverages feel special.

5. Use Candles Sans-Scent Avoid the urge to stock up on and burn scented holiday candles. Solid in abundance at this time of year, cinnamon, peppermint and pine-scented candles can be a tempting choice. Remember that your guests will all arrive wearing perfume and cologne. In addition to your delicious menu, there is no room for more scents. Allow the aroma of the food and beverages to set the mood rather than an artificial candle. (Don’t skip candles altogether though! Just be sure not to place candles in areas where clothes or hair could catch fire, up and out of the way is best).

6. Channel Your Inner Supermodel Since you won’t be busy slaving away in your hot kitchen, be sure to spend time getting festive with your ensemble. The holidays are the time to add a little sparkle. Whether it’s a sequined frock or a pearly eyeliner, get into the holiday sprit.

7. Get Glass Be sure to have lots of bottled water on hand for your party. For any formal engagement, I suggest glass bottles. A glass water bottle feels upscale and pretty. My favorites are Pellegrino for a fizzy option, and Aqua Pana for water sans bubbles. Having the water readily available around the party will keep it accessible for your drinking guests who will thank you tomorrow.

8. Bathroom and Boudoir Your guests will inevitably use your restrooms and poke around your home. Decorate with fresh florals in every space, bathrooms included. Work with a florist to offer beautiful seasonal-appropriate arrangements  other than the standard grocery-store poinsettia.

9. Coat Check Simply planning to stack coats in a bedroom isn’t a good coat-check plan. Some guests will uncomfortable with this and will carry their belongings around all night, not conducive to a fun party. If you’re not working with a professional planner, ask your caterer for recommendations on staffing for this service. Your caterer may even offer the service.

10. Parking Predicament Consider where your guests will park based on the number of cars you’re expecting to need to accommodate. If your neighborhood has lots of street parking options, it’s a nice gesture to let neighbors know that you’ll be having a party so they can expect the increase in cars on your street that evening. It’s amazing how a simple heads up will make your otherwise easily irritated neighbor feel like they were a part of the decision. Problem solved! A professional valet-service is also a surprisingly cost-effective solution to parking dilemmas.

Thank you so much Mara!  These ideas are FABULOUS!  I hope they make all of your holiday party planning a breeze – and if you’d like the professional planning services of Mara and her team, go to www.eventsbylmg.com!  Happy planning!
