Black & White Wedding Inspiration | Wednesday Wisdom

Wednesday, 27 February, 2013

As you all know, black and white is classic, chic, and striking.  This color combo has always been a wedding color palette that never really goes away – always there for the brides looking for the ultimate timeless feel.  While we have always had a handful of brides calling on this duo year after year, we are now seeing a BIG resurgence of black & white palettes in a huge way!  And not just for the classic, traditional bride either.  We are seeing it in edgy contemporary themes, Victorian vintage themes, whimsical graphic themes, and everything in between!  This palette is always a stunner and truly one of the most versatile pairings possible.  Our trend setters at Culinary Crafts saw this coming and were lucky enough to work with Riehl Events, Cake-A-Licious, Salt Lake/Park City Bride & Groom Magazine, Wildflower Linens, Distinctive Inscriptions, and Barrett Doran Photgraphy to create a dynamic and GORGEOUS sweet table for the magazine’s 2012 issue.  So, armed with photos of that eye candy, I created this inspiration board with divine black and white details and a to-die-for Dior wedding gown to show you just how fun, different, and beautiful this palette can be! Happy planning everyone!

Trendy Tuesday: Pumpkins and Pinterest

Tuesday, 11 October, 2011

Hi all!  Well, its officially fall and with the grand entrance of October, its time to turn to fall and harvest decor!  And what says “fall” better than pumpkins?  Autumn, of Riehl Events, highlights the versatility of pumpkin decor with some of her favorite Pinterest finds!  Take it away Autumn!

“I have begun to settle into the fact that summer is officially gone and autumn is inevitably on its way. In addition to an increase in apple flavored delicacies and the return of hot chocolate to the scene, this symbolizes the incorporation of the pumpkin into home and event décor. Pumpkin ideas have been popping up all over Pinterest for months, and here are a few of my favorite finds:

Fancy-schmancy pumpkins:

Combining with another element, like flowers or candles:

Pumpkins are also great to use in a more functional way for your wedding or event:

Thank you Autumn and Riehl Events for sharing your wonderful ideas!  Happy fall everyone!

Spotlight On: Mary’s Wedding – The Ceremony Design

Wednesday, 22 June, 2011

Today, we have another fantastic post from Jacque Riehl of Riehl Events sharing some more behind the scenes secrets of Mary Crafts’s Ceremony!  Take it away, Jacque!

“Ready for some more insight into Mary’s wedding design and details!? Today we are going to share some of the wonderful ideas we will be using for the Ceremony and the Luncheon following the Ceremony at Red Cliff Ranch. WARNING – Fabulous inspiration ahead!

We love details and so does Mary!  I mean, you can DEFINITELY tell in the level of perfection included in the Culinary Crafts recipes, service, and presentation. So we knew we had to have details layered throughout the ceremony for Mary and Rick’s big day.  Ah, the ceremony!  Truly the most important part of this entire thing!

Mary will start her day off at The Montage in Deer Valley. The details start right away in her bridal suite where she and Meagan, Mary’s daughter, are going to pampered and primped by the fabulous Cynthia Dean and her crew from Enizio Hair and Makeup Artistry. From there Mary and Meagan will be picked up in a gorgeous, white Austin Princess Vanden Plas named “Princess Ivy” driven by the ever so dapper Sam of Something Vintage Something Blue.

Mary and Meagan will truly be arriving in style!  As they pull up to Red Cliff Ranch, the guests will be asked to stand, Princess Ivy’s door will be opened, and Meagan will step out and be handed her Maid of Honor bouquet. Once Meagan is down the aisle, Mary will step out, in her stunning Augusta Jones wedding gown from AltaMODA, and she will be handed her bouquet of crème garden roses, eggplant callas, aubergine tulips, and green orchids, just to name a few.  Then she will walk down the aisle- which is an aubergine silk aisle runner flanked in crème rose petals and green hydrangea heads.  The gorgeous music of Michael Lucerelli will fill the air as Mary walks toward her awaiting prince, Rick.  Hanging above the happy couple and their guests will be champagne silk taffeta arch that will frame the gorgeous mountain view.  The aisles will be lined from above with wooden barn lanterns filled with candles and flowers.

Mary, Rick and their Officiant will step up onto a round riser (yes, we’re doing the ceremony in the round!) that will be covered in raw silk surrounded by more crème rose petals and green hydrangea.  They will then say their vows in front of an intimate gathering of close family and friends.  It is sure to be a truly magical moment!

Once pronounced Husband and Wife, Mary and Rick’s guests will be entertained with a “mocktail” hour filled with culinary delights and refreshing beverages from, none other than, Culinary Crafts.  Then it is off to the stables and a wedding luncheon to be remembered!

The guests will be greeted at the stables by a member of the Riehl Events team who will help them find their escort card tag tied with rope, tassles, ribbon and a little silver horse shoe to keep! Then they will find their seats along an 80 foot wooden vinyard tables (provided by Diamond Rental) where they will enjoy a simply gorgeous atmosphere of flowers, carriage lanterns, luxurious linens (provided by Wildflower Linens), beautiful china (also provided by Diamond Rental), and satin tassel ropes. Some of the flowers making their way to this stunning display are hydrengea, amaranthus, allium, calla, delphinium, trechelium, tuberose, chinaberry, blackberry, parrot tulips, and poppy pods.  Beautiful, right?  Guests will be treated to a wonderful family style menu by Culinary Crafts (stay tuned for the unveiling of the ceremony menu next week!).   Afterwords, Mary and Rick will be sent off in Princess Ivy back to The Montage to enjoy the rest of their day together!

Once again, we can’t give away too much as we don’t want to spoil any surprises for those attending!  (You may have noticed there are not many pictures in this post and even those are only for inspiration!)  We can say that it is sure that no one will leave hungry, uninspired, or not totally in love!”

Thank you Jacque!  I can’t wait to see what new details emerge next week!  We’re getting so close to the big day, or rather days!!!  And, as you can tell perhaps, we are giving you sneak peeks of only the ceremony and rehearsal dinner and the big reception will be kept completely under wraps!  Hopefully all of the attendees will enjoy the ‘fireworks’ in store! (It is the 4th of July weekend after all!)  Thank you again to Mary and Jacque for sharing this with us!

Spotlight On: Mary’s Wedding!

Wednesday, 8 June, 2011

Hi all!  Today for Mary’s Wedding Spotlight, we have another post from the wonderful Jacque Riehl of Riehl Events!  Today, she’ll be letting us in on the Rehearsal Dinner design, complete with a peek at her inspiration board! (Rememeber, I’m a BIG fan of the inspiration board!)  Take it away Jacque!

Above: Mary’s Inspiration Board via Jacque Riehl

“Today I want to share with you all about the design for Mary’s first event, the rehearsal dinner. With Mary, her love of food influences every aspect of her life.  From her TV show that many of us watched for years and years to her fabulous catering company, Culinary Crafts, Mary is all about filling her home with people that she loves and her kitchen with the sights, smells and tastes that are creations from her love for those people.  She started Culinary Crafts wanting to share that love with the world and it’s because of that passion that Culinary Crafts is now the number one caterer in the state of Utah.  It seems only natural that each event Mary is planning for her and Rick’s wedding is completely centered around food and the design aspect only enhances what is being served to her lucky guests.

For the rehearsal, Mary wanted to keep the atmosphere light and casual.  She wanted to serve great grilled items; things that are fun to sit around and watch someone prepare. I won’t get too much into the food, as Mary will be sharing that with you next week (you WON’T want to miss that post!), but we decided to take that fun casual atmosphere and create an English Garden poolside event glamorous enough for the likes of Mary Crafts, but casual enough to be fun and fit into the setting it was being created in!  Sounds smashing, doesn’t it?

Much of design in events is being influenced by the royal wedding and English inspired events are hot, hot, hot! Mary’s events, being the fashionable gal she is, will be no exception… To a point. We are using English influences, for this event, only in the sense of a gorgeous English garden, filled with beautiful frilly flowers, iron wire accents, terra cotta pots, wood utility baskets, and lots of beautiful candlelight.

Her colors for this evening are champagne, citron and coral (told you she was fashionable, eh?). This color palette creates a light and airy fun feel to the whole event.  The guests will be surrounded by gorgeous raw silk and natural linen fabrics, iron wire baskets and candle holders, rough hewn terra cotta pots filled with 5 different types of roses, larkspur, stock, mullet, waxflower, amaranthus, smilax and ladies mantle, and of course, lots and lots of candlelight. They will have the opportunity to play croquet and make their own s’mores over a custom built fire pit and while those marshmallows are toasting, they can read how much they are loved by Mary and Rick via great little plaques that are being custom designed by Riehl Events for the happy couple.  Some examples of those plaques are: s’more laughs, s’more kisses, s’more time spent together… Etc.

The evening will be filled with love, laughter, and the coming together of two families in celebration of true love.  One that is epic for our time – Mary and Rick’s.  It will be a night to remember for a lifetime!”

Thank you so much Jacque!  We are so excited to see it all come together!!

Spotlight on: Mary’s Wedding – The Vendors!

Wednesday, 1 June, 2011

So today (as promised) we’ll be returning to the Wednesday Wedding Spotlight of the one and only Mary Crafts and her equally amazing nuptial weekend. :)   Today, Jacque Riehl has kindly agreed to write another fantastic guest post highlighting some of the many FABULOUS vendors making Mary and Rick’s day so special.  Take it away Jacque!

“When it came to vendors for Mary’s wedding, she pretty much had the pick of the cream of the crop. Everyone wants to be involved in her three big days and Mary has been gracious enough to want everyone to have a part.  So today we are going to pay homage to the absolutely wonderful and incredibly talented companies and individuals that will be making Mary and Rick’s wedding a one of a kind event!

Firstly, some of the details -  Mary will be attired in her Augusta Jones designer gown from Alta Moda – hand-selected by the owner, Hilary Anderson.  The rest of the wedding party will be attired in custom designs by James Walker at The Emporium.  And the invitations will be done by Ann Elizabeth Custom Invitations, so you know they’ll be gorgeous and set the tone for an event to remember.  SO EXCITING!  Now, on to the breakdown of the three day event!

On the first day of Mary’s three day event, the rehearsal dinner (and rehearsal!) will take place at Mary’s home.  The vendors involved in this event will be putting on a beautiful English Garden poolside picnic for all of Mary’s guests.  The rentals will be provided by Bacchus Rentals, linens by Wildflower Linens, the design and florals will be done by Riehl Events, and, of course, our fabulous picnic/bbq will be provided by Culinary Crafts.  This evening, forty-eight people will be privy to an intimate event with lots of great picnic style activities and a plethora of great food!

Day two is the ceremony and luncheon at the gorgeous Red Cliff Ranch. We have an English Riding design (we are on a horse ranch after all!)  and the scene will be set with rentals from Diamond Rentals and Wildflower Linens. The design and florals will be done by Riehl Events (natch, of course) and the music will be provided by Michael Lucarelli for both ceremony and luncheon.  The sit-down luncheon will be family style and served by none other than Culinary Crafts.  Eighty lucky people will attend this event and walk away with something they will remember for a lifetime, both because of Mary and Rick’s love and also because of an unbelievable event.

Then we come to day three – the big event…. The reception!  Five hundred people will be attending this evening on the stunning Roney Estate in Springville, Utah.  Those arriving will pull up to valet parking and then be ushered off to a gorgeous event designed by SceneMakers and rentals provided by Diamond RentalsBacchus Event Services will be providing delicious “mocktails” and they are sure to be “wow”-ed by Culinary Crafts‘s ring of fire, delectable delights, and culinary spectacles!  The highlight of the “mocktail” bars will be the ice sculptures from Chad at Swanovations and Carrie from Carrie’s Cakes has been given free reign to create a masterpiece reflective of Mary’s discriminating eye for detail. The guests will dance the night away to the sounds of the amazing Joe Muscolino Band. The evening is, simply put, going to be a marvelous night to all whom attend!

For all three days of events, Culinary Crafts will be providing the stellar food and drink and Riehl Events will be partnering to do all of the planning, production, and event management of the events.  Pepper Nix Photography, ZumaPhoto, and David Perry Films will be on hand each day to record all the memories on film and video for everyone to enjoy for many years to come!

And, in true classic style, for both the ceremony and the reception Something Vintage Something Blue will be carrying Mary and Rick away for their farewells.

I’d like to express again just how very excited we are to be a part of this AMAZING occasion and we know each vendor involved are equally as thrilled as we are!  It is quite a feather in our caps to be selected by the Grande Dame of Utah Weddings to create her special day and I think this is the finest team of wedding specialists ever assembled.  We all look forward to creating the perfect three days for Mary and Rick – and all of their guests!

Congrats to Mary and Rick.  And thank you to all of the vendors involved in making these three days full of memories to last a lifetime!”

Thank you so much Jacque!  And we at Culinary Crafts also want to thank all of these fantastic vendors for lending Mary and Rick your talent and creativity!  Check back for more updates soon!

NEW FEATURE! Spotlight on: Mary’s Wedding

Wednesday, 18 May, 2011

So, in light of the recent announcement of our beloved Mary Crafts’s upcoming wedding, we’ve decided to start a new feature on the blog.  Every Wednesday, we will be highlighting Mary’s wedding planning and details of the event!!!  We are SO THRILLED.  Serious.  :)   To kick it off, we’ve asked Jacque Riehl of Riehl Events (who is the maven in charge of planning Mary’s BIG DAY) to guest blog.  Check it out!

“About 6 weeks ago I was lucky enough to find myself in the presence of the lovely Mary Crafts having a wonderful dinner.  I just didn’t realize how lucky I would become that evening.  Eventually the conversation turned to her wedding (did anyone actually think it wouldn’t?) and how her planning was coming along.

I have to preface that I have looked up to Mary and considered her a mentor for almost 7 years now.  Shortly after I started my event planning business I had the pleasure of working with Mary and Culinary Crafts at the Sundance Film Festival. Mary and I have been good friends ever since.

I knew going into that evening I would be offering to help Mary with her wedding in any way she could possibly use me or my team. She has given so much over the years, not just to me, but to the industry as a whole.  I knew this was Riehl Events chance to give back. When I offered our services to her, Mary started to cry.  You have to understand that even the most prim and proper brides cry during wedding planning.  It’s the stress, it’s the passion, it’s simply being in love, and Mary is that and more. Mary and I had a heart to heart that evening and decided I would help plan her wedding and do design for, at least, part of it.  We’ve been non-stop ever since!

So we started.  We did the initial consult, then the budget and time line meeting.  We did the initial design meeting and then it was time to see the venues and get the vendors in order.  Mary’s wedding is not the typical one night, one place ordeal.  It’s Mary, after all, and it’s going to be the best event over 3 days anyone has ever seen! So 3 days, 3 venues, none in the “valley”…I thought my team was going to pass out, but we are all very excited to be a part of it and have come up with fabulous ideas, glorious décor for the first two events and are ready to get this shin dig started!

I don’t use the word shin dig lightly.  The venues are amazing and have a VERY Mary and Rick flair.  The first evening, June 30th, will be taking place at Mary’s home. It is a small rehearsal dinner for about 40 people.

Of course, Culinary Crafts will be sharing a wonderful BBQ style dinner with all the accroutments.  I can’t reveal too much about what we have planned, as we haven’t revealed it even to Mary yet, but it’s going to be fabulous!  We will be turning her back yard into a glorious English Picnic Pool Party style event.  More to come later!

The next morning is the ceremony and wedding luncheon at the fabulous Red Cliff Ranch. For this site inspection we had to don our Wellies as it is still muddy up in the mountains. We are turning the Pavilion (aka horse training ring, yes you read me right) into a ceremony in the round.

The views are truly amazing and I’m sure the ceremony will be as well.
Then we’re off to the horse stables for the luncheon for about 80 people.

This will be served in a formal, sit down, family style on one long table down the center of the stables, 80 plus feet long to be exact. The entire day will be done in an English Riding design.  Again, I can’t reveal too much, but the ideas that have come from the Riehl Events team are beyond amazing and will bring the true beauty of this location to life. After that we’ll be seeing Mary and Rick off into wedded bliss for the rest of the day.

The following evening is the big event…the reception! Nedra Roney has been kind enough to ask Mary and Rick to have their big party at her estate. The large tailored lawn and fabulous backdrop of the mountains provides the perfect setting for dinner and dancing under the stars for 500 plus people.

This event will have more of a relaxed lounge type atmosphere. Culinary Crafts‘s “Ring of Fire” will be something no one there will ever forget!

As you can start to see, this is truly the wedding of the year as is well deserved by the Grande Dame of weddings and her Knight in Shining Armor.  We are excited to be a part of Mary and Rick’s special time and feel honored to have been asked to do so. They are so deserving of each other and truly in love. The world is just perfect when you are around them. What planner/designer wouldn’t want to be a part of something like that?

We’ll be bringing you updates on the planning and releasing design details as we can. We know this is the Utah “Royal Wedding” so we want to keep you informed as possible.  Stay tuned for more info very soon!”

Thank you SO much, Jacque, for your AMAZING work and thank you for this extra special behind-the-scenes look at our wonderful Mary’s wedding!  Look for more updates soon!!!!
