Today on the blog, we have a bright and BEAUTIFUL ranch wedding that was held at a private residence in the Maple Ridge Ranches – so you know its going to be breathtaking!  We absolutely loved how bold the color palette was and how fun and creative the menu was!  Thank you to Kristina Curtis Photography for the amazing photos.  Check it out!

A mix of classic lace with a fun twist from these colorful cowboy boots.  Plus that amazing bouquet from Roots Floral Design?!  Absolutely flawless!

How stunning is this floral arch?  These peonies are my favorite!  We love how the colors popped against the beautiful blur skies and green fields.

We love this ceremony space!  Such a perfect setting for this intimate celebration.

I love it when couples have their furbabies at their weddings!  And, how cute are these pups with their bandanas?!  LOVE.

I’m telling you, these peonies were out of this world!  We loved using them to dress up our wooden serving platters!  Such a great touch that perfectly tied into the feel of this wedding!

We loved how the centerpieces popped against the lace, natural burlap, and white washed tables and chairs from Diamond Rental.  Plus, the mixed metallics of the votives really added a touch of elegance!

I mean, seriously, how pretty was this room?  Love the wagon wheel chandeliers too!

The couple chose to give their guests favors that were sweet AND pretty!  This custom candy bar with these sweet little treat bags were so cute!

Of course, with a celebration this fun, we had multiple chef stations around the space to add interest and encourage the guests to mix and mingle.  We also loved using spare blooms to dress up the stations!  This is our Snuck Farm Salad Bar with locally grown produce with all of the trimmings for a summer salad!  Yum!

Beautiful sliced Utah Apples and Candied Pecans were an obvious choice for the salads!  Plus, we offered three tasty, summer dressings – Raspberry Vinaigrette, Caramelized Onion Vinaigrette, and Slide Ridge Honey Vinaigrette!  So good!

These cute take out boxes were the perfect vessel for our Vegetarian Wok station!  Aren’t they so cool?

Next station, our Chef Torched Tri Tip!  Always a crowd favorite!

Along with the Tri Tip we added our amazing sides, like House Made Chimichurri Sauce and Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Olive Oil and Sea Salt!  Such a great pairing!

This Curry Salmon with Carrot Oat Waffles and Bechamel Sauce was so different and delicious!  We loved this dish!

Another shot of these gorgeous florals, (because, well, they are amazing!)  And how pretty was this cake from Carrie’s Cakes?!  We loved how the lace and burlap elements tied into the simply elegant cake, and the addition of the bright florals really made it so romantic!

Of course, there were desserts (my favorite!)   We couldn’t just serve one, so we made it a grand buffet with ALLLL the delicious plus slices of the fabulous wedding cake!

We served our Pot de Cremes and Milk and Cookie Shooters.  Love these cute little bites!

Our Raspberry Crumb Bars are a classic dessert offering for mix and mingle receptions too!  So tasty and easy to carry around while talking to everyone!

Last, but not least, our Fresh Berry Parfaits and Salted Caramel Shortbread Bars rounded out the AMAZING desserts we served.  Perfect for this summer menu!

Wasn’t this wedding so pretty?  We absolutely LOVED this wedding and how colorful it was!  I hope this inspires you all to be a little bold with your color choices and creative with your menus!  Happy planning, everyone!

Mary’s Advice for Brides

By | Culinary Crafts Events | No Comments

Dear Bride,

Mary Crafts here. I’ve seen more weddings than I can count, I know the ins and outs, the ups and downs, and I feel qualified to offer you some advice.

Last year, our bride Chelsea had her beautiful wedding celebration at Red Cliff Ranch in Heber, UT. This gorgeous ranch was the same place that I held my wedding just five years earlier. I fell in love with this darling bride and her mother from our first meeting in our office.

Over the next few months, we worked together to plan out the details of her special day. Chelsea already had the fabulous David Newkirk reserved for her photographer, and I suggested some of my favorite vendors for the Ranch: Kale Fitch as videographer, Gold Standard as the music, and Josh from 5 Penney Floral to add the perfect little accents that turn the ranch into a romantic wedding location. We also created a wonderful menu for the night. From the dinner, to the cake, to the late night snack! This wedding was sure to be a big, perfect, beautiful success.

Eventually, the big day arrived. Chelsea was giddy and excited to finally marry her sweetheart, Walker, and she anticipated the day would go exactly as dreamed. However, it wasn’t long until Chelsea ran into a problem: the officiate was late.

After waiting 45 minutes for his arrival, we discovered that the officiate (a close friend of Chelsea’s fathers’s) had gotten confused and was still two hours away! Although the guests were tired and restless, Chelsea’s father insisted on waiting for him. The ceremony would start three hours late.

So, what was there to do? After months of planning, it all came down to one small mistake and the whole evening could be tainted! One thing that I told Chelsea in this moment, and one thing that I will tell you, is that things hardly go as planned. But, if you think on your feet, and prepare to be flexible, everything will work out. Just because it doesn’t go as planned it doesn’t mean it won’t go perfectly.

I had an idea, and Chelsea was so willing and ready to try it out.

In front of the crowd of tired guests I pulled up a chair and stood on top.

“Excuse me!”

Heads turned.

“Now, I’ve got some good news, and I’ve got some bad news. The bad news is, the officiate is still two hours away and we’ve determined to wait for him.”

Groans.

“The good news is, we are opening the bar and starting the passed hors d’oeuvres!”

Cheers!

Guests had a delightful time switching the cocktail hour to before the ceremony and moved into dinner following the ceremony. Here’s what Chelsea recently wrote to me about it:

“Not a moment goes by that I don’t think about perfect my wedding day was, but what I remember are the incredible people that made it happen… So many people have shared with us how impressed they were with your ability and flexibility to adjust the cocktail hour with our officiant being late. They loved eating and drinking beforehand and socializing/catching up before the ceremony. Your kindness, sincerity, creativity, energy, and love has forever been imprinted on my heart.”

Chelsea was able to roll with the punches and it turned what seemed at the time like serious issue, into one of her favorite memories at her wedding.

Romantic, Organic Red Cliff Ranch Wedding

By | Event Tips and Planning, Food, Modern Wedding Style, Hot Tips for Cool Brides, Parties, Venues We Love, Wedding Trends | No Comments

Today, I have a GORGEOUS wedding to share with you – and, since we are approaching Memorial Day weekend – it boasts a fabulous menu that can easily inspire your weekend get togethers!  This was such a beautiful event and the food was so fun as well as delicious (of course)!  We loved the couple’s choice to serve some classic summer BBQ favorites, as well as some surprises.  Thank you to Kate Benson for the fabulous photographs!  Check it out!

Red Cliff Ranch is one of our favorite venues!  We always love hosting events there.

How pretty is this tablescape?!  We love the pink glassware that adds a touch of romance to the rustic table and the organic feel of the garland runner.  So pretty!

How cute are these horse favors?  Each guest was welcomed to their seat with one of these cuties.  Love all of the small details at this event!

Of course, we make sure that all of the guests have some fabulous beverage options – and this event was no exception!  We served fresh fruit infused waters (always a crowd favorite) as well as Mojitos!  We love the aspen bark paper straws in the Mojitos as well.  Such a great touch!

To tie in with the casual feel of this event, the couple chose to host a grand buffet – and, boy, was it delicious.  Guests got a front row seat to the yummy eats and we loved seeing how excited they were to dig in!

This menu is chock full of BBQ inspiration!  Case in point, our entrees were grilled on site and would be perfect at any event.  We served our Grilled Salmon Filet with Lemon Slices and Caper Sauce and our Mesquite-Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce – YUM!

Another grilled dish?  Our Mesquite-Grilled Summer Vegetables.  Plus, our Caprese Salad with Heirloom Tomatoes, Local Mozzarella Cheese, and a Balsamic Glaze was a perfect addition to this summer-y menu!

Another classic dish?  Mary’s Macaroni & Cheese, which is always a star side dish!

Of course, we didn’t stop at the grand buffet.  We also hosted a Mashed Potato Bar action station where guests could create over-the-top mashed potatoes.  Such a fun way to entertain your guests and a great alternative to the  sliders and fries bars that it seems that are everywhere these days.  This is definitely a way to make your event unique!  Love it.

What a beautiful night and the guests were loving this fun menu!

Isn’t the bride so beautiful?  Such a doll!  Mary always has such a great connection with our clients and it really shows – especially when Culinary Crafts is there to make their event even more perfect!

We didn’t forget dessert – I know you were wondering…  😉  For this menu, our Fresh Fruit Cobbler action station was PERFECT!  We hand scooped Culinary Crafts’ House Made Vanilla Bean Gelato on our cobblers – we served 3, yes 3, different kinds!

Our peach, berry, and apple cobblers were SOOOOO good.  You definitely had to have one of each!

Isn’t the station set up pretty too?  We love adding simple touches that really add something extra to all of our stations.  To tie in the rustic feel of this event, we simply added wood stump slices which added visual interest AND pretty details!

The couple chose to have a Gourmet Popcorn Bar for their favors where guests could choose from 3 flavors – plus they custom made cute little bags for the guests to take home their treats!  The bride and groom each chose their own personal favorite and then the third flavor was their combined favorite – so fun!  ‘His’ was a Chili Lime popcorn, ‘Hers’ was a Cookies & Cream popcorn, and the ‘Ours’ flavor was the Bacon Bourbon Caramel popcorn (a personal favorite!)  YUM!

Last but not least, no ranch wedding would be complete without a S’mores Bar!  So, of course, we served this classic take with our House Made marshmallows!

This wedding was so beautiful and we loved the fun menu we were able to create!  We hope that this inspires you to create some fun BBQ menus of your own for Memorial Day weekend!  Happy planning, everyone!

By | Culinary Crafts Events, Event Tips and Planning, Featured: Culinary Crafts in the Press, Modern Wedding Style, Hot Tips for Cool Brides, Wedding Trends | No Comments

Today we have a GORGEOUS wedding that Culinary Crafts did last spring that we LOVE.  This little beauty was featured on Martha Stewart Weddings AND our local Utah Valley Bride magazine!  It was such a dreamy day, captured by Ashley Sawtelle, and we are so happy to be sharing it with you!  Check it out!

Our signature House Made Strawberry Shortcakes were a guest favorite!  We love this dessert and it was perfect for this spring wedding.

Isn’t this invitation suite beautiful? Lovely stationary design by Alex Fairchild and calligraphy by Kelle McCarter!

This bridal party is perfectly matched!  We love the blue and pink palette!

Another calligraphic gem by Kelle McCarter, we love these place cards!  Another great element?  The lavender cones that were passed to guests to shower the couple at their send off!

Isn’t Stone Hill Lodge Estate beautiful?  We love it’s rustic elegance and isn’t this tablescape to die for?  L’Arrangement Floral nailed the florals and the rentals from Diamond Rental and linens from La Tavola Fine Linens came together just perfectly!

How amazing is this cake and macaron display from the talented Flour and Flourish?  LOVE IT!  And the crowns were a favorite detail, for sure!

This wedding was SOOOOO pretty and we are so thrilled to see it shared in so many awesome publications!  I hope it inspires you to create a magical event of your own!  Happy planning, everyone!

Today’s Instagram of the Week comes from Utah Valley University’s Development & Alumni Relations Department (a.k.a. @UVUgiving)!  They posted this AWESOME photo of a presentation at the UVU Donor Appreciation Banquet where Culinary Crafts collaborated with the Culinary Arts program to showcase some of the dishes they created and gave the guests recipes and ‘how-to’ guides to make the delicious dishes at home!  This was SUCH a fun event and we were so blessed to be able to share this with many of our staff members who attended that are current students or past alumni.  Such and amazing evening and thank you again for sharing, @UVUgifting!  Remember, for your chance to be next week’s Instagram of the Week, tag us at @culinarycrafts or add the hashtag #culinarycrafts to your posts and check back to see who is chosen next!  Happy weekend, everyone!

New Downtown Salt Lake City Venue: Church & State

By | Culinary Crafts Events, Event Tips and Planning, Food, Modern Wedding Style, Hot Tips for Cool Brides, Venues We Love, Wedding Trends | No Comments

As I’m sure you know, Culinary Crafts is always on the lookout for new, interesting, and gorgeous venues.  When we found out about Church & State in downtown Salt Lake City, well, I can say we were thrilled!  Originally constructed in 1893 (which means it dates back to even before Utah was granted its statehood), this venue was recently renovated from a church to a breathtaking 3,500 sqft space that is perfect for any event!  It boasts traditional styling with touches of modern, industrial design elements and an AMAZING floor to ceiling Mondrian-style stained glass window.  Such a unique and versatile space, we couldn’t wait to host Brianna & Dylan’s wedding here!  Thanks to Kelli Bramble for the beautiful photos!  Check it out!

The couple was looking for a venue that could transition from their wedding ceremony to their reception in the same space. With a guest list of about 100, they needed a larger venue with multiple spaces for each part of their day.  Well, Church & State was just the ticket and it had just the right mix of natural and industrial elements to fit the couple’s style!  Isn’t it stunning?

Their ceremony took place upstairs and then transitioned into the cocktail hour with lounge furniture and cocktail tables so the guests could mix and mingle with each other.  We love how light and bright this space was!

Of course, we served delicious bites during cocktail hour.  The guests were served butler-passed hors d’oeuvres of Carolina Style BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders and Mozzarella Salata Skewers with Kalamata Olives, Tomato, Basil, and Balsamic Drizzle.  So good!

The couple chose a sophisticated color palette of black, white, and gold for their reception dinner which allowed this venue’s unique beauty to shine through!  We love how the palette tied into the space so perfectly.  So pretty!

We love to pre-set elements of the menu on the tables to engage the guests and get them excited for the food to come!  So, for this event, we plated our House-Made Artisan Rolls with Paddle of Sea Salted Butter.  Yummy!

The guests were welcomed to the main level for a fantastic buffet dinner and the sounds of Pixie & the Partygrass Boys provided the perfect background music!

The buffet was a collection of some of our signature favorites!  Like our Arugula, Pear, and Goat Cheese Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette and our Butternut Squash Ravioli with Brown Sage Butter, which is AMAZING!

We loved the multiple levels of serving dishes in the buffet because it added so much visual interest!  Another menu offering?  Our Roasted Fingerling Potatoes!

We rounded out the menu with our Green Beans Almondine and Lemon Herb Chicken!  What an elegant feast!!!

Isn’t Church & State gorgeous?  We love it and hope it inspires all of you planning your own events to check it out (and other new venues) to find a unique space that fits your style perfectly!  Happy planning, everyone!

Beauty and Her Feast Editorial Shoot!

By | Culinary Crafts Events, Event Tips and Planning, Every Day Life at Culinary Crafts, Featured: Culinary Crafts in the Press, Food, Modern Wedding Style, Hot Tips for Cool Brides, Sharing the Love -Vendor and Client Relationships, Vendor Love!, Wedding Trends | No Comments

Today, we are showcasing this simply romantic editorial shoot we did that you may have seen in Utah Valley Bride magazine as well as our new bridal ad!  We love our Beauty and Her Feast menu and the spectacular vendor team put together an AMAZINGLY gorgeous shoot!  Check it out!

This beautiful tablescape was captured perfectly by Heather Nan Photography, don’t you think?!   Plus, isn’t this setting so dreamy?

Love

The rentals from Diamond Rental were so elegant and added a textural element to the table that we loved.  Plus, the paper goods from Ann Elizabeth Print Studio were so lovely.  The hand torn edges and wax seal on the menus were such a great element that took them over the top!

We loved these simple Short Rib Lettuce Wraps on golden plates – So pretty and delicious!  Plus, of course we had to have a cocktail that tied into the palette so we created this Hibiscus Rose Cocktail with Hibiscus Tea, Rose Hips, Vodka, and Ginger Beer!

Next, our salad course was a hearty Blood Beet Greens Salad with Sorrel, Roasted Beets, Goat Cheese, Oranges, Pistachios, and a Citrus Vinaigrette.  Earthy and complex, we also loved the way this plate tied in with the table’s colors!

Next, our fish course was a Butter-Poached Red Trout with Israeli Couscous and Roasted Peppers.  Light and beautiful!  Plus, don’t you love our black tie service?  What a way to make your event feel elegant and high end!

Of course, with a decadent plated menu, we love serving an intermezzo course.  In the summer months, our house made Blood Orange Sorbet is perfect for cleansing your palette AND cooling off your guests!  Love it!

Next, our entree course was a Pork Saltimbocca with Roasted Roma Tomatoes and Fried Sage.  We loved incorporating seasonal produce into this dish!

And, of course, then came dessert!  These Black Forest Petite Bundt Cakes were so delcious!!!  And, we loved the natural stone plates.  What an unexpected and beautiful element!

I can’t but help share the breathtaking florals by Soil and Stem and the amazing stained glass cake by Carries Cakes!  Aren’t they pretty?!

Of course, we had to do a bit of a dessert selection, so we also served Vanilla Bean Rose Cupcakes with a rose frosting design, Mini Lemon Meringue Tarts, and Chocolate Dipped Bosc Pears!  All served with these pretty glass bell jar tops.  How fun!

We loved this shoot and thought it was brimming with so much good stuff!  I think you’ll agree.  🙂  We hope it inspires all of you to get creative with your events and add some additional elements to take it over the top!  Happy planning, everyone!
