The Ultimate Chef Action Dinner!

By | Culinary Crafts Events | No Comments

Today, I have an AMAZING birthday celebration to share with you that features, not only, The Oak Ridge Boys, but also our new favorite culinary “action” station – Chef’s Dinners! These are Culinary Crafts’ showcase events where they get to bring all their skill and years of experience into play – and what a way to entertain your guests! In years past, chefs were allocated to the back of house and all the cooking kept out of sight, but at these events, the chefs are brought front and center in the middle of the formal dining room to create the entertainment for the evening.  So cool!  Check it out!

UltimateChefDinner

The amazing setting for this over-the-top birthday party!

UltimateChefDinner2

This amazing evening began with signature cocktails: Pomtinis with Gingered Lemon Wheel and Phil Collins with Mint and Lime. So refreshing!  The fun high boys tables were adorned with cowboy boot arrangements, created by our friends at Scenemakers, and Culinary Crafts provided our great whiskey barrel bars to set the country ranch atmosphere.

UltimateChefDinner3

Guests munched on retro appetizers that we set up in fun stations and also passed around to keep the guests mingling.  I love the miniture taco bites and the deviled eggs – YUM!

UltimateChefDinner4

Next, the guests were invited to a private concert with The Oakridge Boys – yes, THE Oakridge Boys – and they put on a FANTASTIC show!

UltimateChefDinner5

While the guests were enjoying the concert, all hands were on deck to ready the dining tent and set for the “Chef Showcase.”  Check out Mary and Marco taste testing the dishes to make sure that everything was coming together perfectly!

UltimateChefDinner6

Not only are the guests going to be wow-ed by this culinary showcase, but check out this tent!  Amazing and beautifully adorned with florals by Scenemakers!

UltimateChefDinner7

Check out our team starting to prepare the first course!  Each course was designed with maximum flare and fire to give plenty of action for guests to enjoy!

UltimateChefDinner8

UltimateChefDinner9

Isn’t this awesome?  Our very our Ryan Crafts was torching the Bistecca for all the guests to see!  Talk about a showstopper!

UltimateChefDinner10

Just because our team is busy preparing the dishes center stage doesn’t mean we stop giving the topmost attention to service of the guests!  The waiters loved taking the food right from the chef’s hand to the tables only a few feet away and we made sure each of them were kept fed and watered all night long!

UltimateChefDinner11

Of course, we ended the meal with some FANTASTIC desserts including fresh peach cobbler a là mode which our very own Meagan Crafts is creating with that magnificent flambé display!

UltimateChefDinner12

To end the evening, guests were invited back to the concert area to our signature gelato and dancing – an AWESOME end to one STELLAR birthday party!  Happy celebrating everyone!

Wedding Traditions: Stellar Send Off Ideas!

By | Modern Wedding Style, Hot Tips for Cool Brides | No Comments

Many brides love the idea of a send off to end their wedding day in a fun and creative way.  This allows for the couple to add a fun detail to their wedding that will surely be a great photo op, but also lets all the guests get involved in the festivities and send their well wishes to the couple too!  We at Culinary Crafts have seen many a send off, from the traditional stand-bys like sparklers and flower petals to something a little but different like glow sticks and fireworks!  Check out some of our favorites!

sendoff

The sparkler send off is an AWESOME traditional sendoff.  It sticks around because its fun, festive and who doesn’t love sparklers?  Be aware that some places don’t allow sparklers though,  but never fear!  There are TONS of other great options!

sendoff2

The lavender toss is one of my new favorites!  A much better alternative to rice (it won’t harm birds, for one!) – it smells wonderful and the color is gorgeous.  Perfect for a natural, green, or rustic wedding!

A fireworks display is DEFINITELY for the couple who aren’t afraid to pack a punch!  This dramatic and awe-inspiring finale is a SHOWSTOPPER!  Perfect for our very own Mary Crafts-Homer’s three-day wedding weekend sendoff!

sendoff3

sendoff4

We love the neon brightness of the glow stick sendoff.  Whether waving or tossing them, the pictures are fun and SUPER colorful!  Definitely a great option for a whimsical wedding!

sendoff5

The bubble send off is another traditional choice, but we love how fun they are!  Guests are always more than happy to join in – plus the bubbles can double as a wedding favor!

sendoff6

Noisemakers are a good choice for December/January weddings – very New Year’s Eve-esque – but really, it could be any time.  Use kazoos, blowouts, or even harmonicas – its a great way to keep the party going and keeps the energy level high.

sendoff7

The confetti/ticker-tape send off is one of my favorites.  It always creates the most amazingly, colorful photos!  Just be aware that it does require clean up, so you want to make sure you let your venue know!

sendoff8

The ribbon wand is relatively new one idea, but I love it!  Especially for feminine, romantic weddings!  It would work well with whimisical, rustic,or bohemian weddings too though!

I hope this inspires you to add one of these great send off ideas to your wedding – or create your own!  Remember, its your day, so make it special and personal to you and your partner!  Happy planning everyone!

Top 5 Questions to Ask Your Caterer | Food Theory Thursday

By | Food Theory Thursday | No Comments

Rayna2

Even though we are almost into the full swing of wedding season, some of you still may be searching for stellar vendors to make your event AMAZING!  With that in mind, I thought this ever-so-helpful advice from our very own Mary Crafts-Homer would be perfect for anyone looking for a top-notch caterer.  These “Top 5 Questions to Ask Your Caterer” are a good way to find out which caterer will fit your taste, style, and budget – so you can sit back and relax, knowing that you’ve picked the best fit for you and your wedding!  Check it out!

1.  Let your caterer know your budget up front and ask what would be the best fit for your event based on that budget.  You may want a 7 course plated dinner for all your guests but that definitely adds major cost to your bottom line – so unless your budget allows for it, let the caterer suggest other options – such as a gorgeous dinner buffet with similar food options to cut your cost.  If the caterer won’t work with your budget or tries to upsell you an event you aren’t sure you can afford – be wary.  Also make sure that you trust your caterer enough to give you ideas you wouldn’t have thought of yourself, but also make sure that they keep your vision at the forefront.  It’s your day, after all!

CATIE6

2.  Ask if there are any additional costs for labor, alcohol service, gratuity, etc. that will be added into your final total.  This is especially important if you have a tight budget and do not want to be surprised with the final bill the week before your wedding.  Most caterers will outline any additional labor costs, extra staff costs, alcohol provider’s costs, and also suggest a gratuity based on your cost.  Make sure you are aware of the costs involved and plan for your budget and there will be no surprises at the end.  Also, remember the gratuity is based on the service provided.  So your gratuity should reflect your overall happiness with the event and service.

CATIE2

3.  Ask if the food is prepared on-site or in a kitchen off-site.  Culinary Crafts prides itself on preparing their food at the event site (which is one of the reasons it is SO delicious and fresh).  This allows you to plan for how much space the caterer will need to prepare the food and plan a layout where they will have their “back of house” or prep area.  You don’t want to be figuring this out on the day of – you’ll have more important things to focus on!

ACE8

4.  Ask if they are a full service caterer or not.  Meaning, are they just going to show up and make sure the food is taken care of?  Or are they going to make sure that the layout is the way that you (the client) have envisioned?  And that the cake shows up?  Or that the rental company has delivered the chairs and linens you ordered?  Culinary Crafts will make sure all facets of the event are taken care of from layout to set up to execution.  Of course, a wedding planner would do this as well – so if you have hired one, Culinary Crafts will work closely with the planner to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.  One less thing to worry about on your wedding day!

ChanningHancock9

5.  Ask other wedding vendors and past client about their experience with the caterer you are considering hiring.  No matter what the reputation is of the caterer, you should ask vendors and clients you know and trust about their experience with the caterer to find out if they would recommend them or had any problems with them.  It’s always important to know who you are doing business with.  It’ll make sure you are happy in the long run!

Happy planning everyone!

Bon Appetit’s Food Trends for 2013 | Food Theory Thursday

By | Food Theory Thursday | No Comments

Recently, Bon Appetit honed their culinary prowess to predict the top 25 emerging food trends for 2013 – which as you may guess is totally up my alley!  While I am truly loving the diversity on the list, I gotta say my fav one was #23: Blond(ie) is the new Brown(ie)!  Now, please understand that I am a die-hard choco-phile and I will never let my brownie love go, but I am truly excited to see blondies make a resurgence.  Especially since I know Culinary Crafts’s pastry chef, Jocelyn Ball, has a kick butt recipe for Salted Caramel Blondies – yes I said salted caramel blondies – that are heavenly!  I am thrilled to see blondies make a comeback – and will happily indulge in them throughout their rise in 2013!  Happy eating everyone!

Rustic Ranch Wedding Part 3 | Food Theory Thursday

By | Food Theory Thursday | One Comment

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  Today, we have Part 3 of our Rustic Ranch beauty of a wedding and I just know you are going to love it!  Today, we are focusing on the food and drink, which I must say, is ALWAYS my favorite part of the day!  I warn you, viewing these images might leave you hungry!  Check it out!

This canoe of vintage style soda bottles was one of my favorite details of the year.  Whimsical and functional, guests DEFINITELY loved this special touch.

We also appreciated their nod to Utah’s very own High West Distillery!  The couple chose to make their signature High West Lemonade their signature cocktail – which is DELCIOUS, I must say!

The couple chose so many appetizers to really get their guests appetites going!  Sweet Potato Fries with Utah Fry Sauce, Mini Cordon Bleus, Tortilla Chips with Avocado and Corn Salsa, Utah Smoked Trout Crostini, and Chipotle Shrimp with Cumin Spiced Cream were some of the offerings.  So delicious!

The bride chose to create a family style menu for her guests which is always a great idea with these long tables which allow people to pass and share the dishes easily!  Definitely one of our favorite dining style for sure!

Candy buffets are always a fun addition, especially when the couple picks their favorites to share!

Not only did the couple create a fun candy station, but they had a s’mores station, and bundt cakes instead of traditional wedding cake for their guests to enjoy!

This event was so much fun and we just LOVED all of the BEAUTIFUL details, the GORGEOUS venue, and FANTASTIC food that came together to make this wedding one of a kind – definitely not one to be forgotten any time soon!  Thank you so much to Nikki and Mike for letting us share in this extraordinary day!  Happy planning everyone!

Rustic Ranch Wedding Part 2 | Wednesday Wisdom

By | Wednesday Wisdom | No Comments

Today is Part 2 of this FABULOUS rustic ranch wedding – and its all about the details!  This wedding was chock full of so many pretty and fun details and they really left no piece untouched.  From the signage, to the flowers, to the setup, everything had a personal, extra-special touch which our friends at Scenemakers designed and carried out flawlessly!  Now, on to the pictures!

This couple really wanted to make this event about creating a new family, so they chose to do away with the traditional guest seating of Bride or Groom’s side and allow the guests to sit where ever they liked by posting the sign “Choose a Seat, Not a Side” with GORGEOUS hand calligraphy.  We also loved the lavender pouches that gave for their ceremony recessional toss.  So fun!

One of the best ways to maintain a consistent design feel is when a couple uses their wedding monogram, logo, or personal design throughout the event.  The couple’s craved heart logo was seen on the menus, invitations, custom wood signage, seating cards, and blanket favors – which was FABULOUS!  (And a special shout out to Ann Elizabeth Design for all of the FANTASTIC paper goods she created!  So beautiful!)

This romantic and airy seating card setup was rustic and beautiful.  We loved Ann Elizabeth‘s seating card tags and how Scenemakers used the aspens to create the framework for the display!

The flowers were such vibrant and bold palette but were balanced but the neutral and burlap tones throughout.  We also loved that every floral creation was its own design.  This made for a visually interesting event that was anything but boring!

The couple chose to give all of their guests custom blankets with their wedding logo as a memorable and useable favor.  The twine tie and fabric tag were a great way to “wrap” the favors too!

Red Cliff Ranch‘s barn created a cozy and intimate dining space, which is taken up a notch by the long wooden tables which create a real sense of family and conversation.  Love!  Plus, the couple’s Mason jar wine glasses and the elegant lavender tied ribbon balanced the whimsical with the classic – perfect for this couple!

Nikki and Mike are such a perfect couple and we were blown away by the gorgeousness of this event!  When Red Cliff Ranch, Scenemakers, Ann Elizabeth, Culinary Crafts join forces for a fabulous bride, magic is made!  This event was so much fun and we just LOVED all of the beautiful details that came together to make this wedding one of a kind – definitely not one to be forgotten any time soon!  Thank you so much to Nikki and Mike for letting us share in this extraordinary day!  Remember, we have one more post with the fantastic food from this event!  You definitely don’t want to miss it!

Rustic Ranch Wedding Part 1 | Trendy Tuesday

By | Trendy Tuesday | No Comments

Today, I am so excited to share one of my favorite weddings from 2012 with you!  This colorful wedding was full of gorgeous details, rustic touches, and an overall sense of love, celebration, and family.  It was SO awesome, we actually needed to break it up into 3 separate posts!  Today, we’ll be showing you the beauty of the Red Cliff Ranch which set the stage for this truly spectacular event that we LOVED every second of – not to mention the florals and design of our friends at Scenemakers!  Check it out!

The wedding was held at the GORGEOUS Red Cliff Ranch!  We loved that they wanted the natural beauty and rustic feel of the venue to shine!  So pretty!

The trend of fun signage for the flower girls or ring bearers to carry down the aisle is a great way for couple’s to show their personal side.  Plus the kids love being such an important part of the day!

The Red Cliff Ranch‘s barn was a gorgeous choice for the couple dinner with this newly joined family!  We also love the large monograms on the barn doors that Scenemakers created.  So fun!

The gorgeous mountains of the Heber Valley make for STUNNING backdrops.  Perfect surroundings for the lounge we created in the corral where people could relax and chat in comfy style!

At night, the ranch lights up, and if possible, becomes just as beautiful as it is during the day, if not moreso!  The couple chose to hire Something Vintage, Something Blue‘s Dazee to whisk them away in style.  Love that car!

We are so excited to share the details and food from this day, so stay tuned!  Happy planning everyone!
