A Wedding With A Patriotic Twist!

By | Culinary Crafts Events, Event Tips and Planning, Featured: Culinary Crafts in the Press, Food, Holiday Parties, Modern Wedding Style, Hot Tips for Cool Brides, Parties, Venues We Love

You know, all of us here at Culinary Crafts think we get to host some of the most AMAZING weddings!  We especially love events that have a twist on a theme and this one is a favorite for sure.  Plus, it is perfect inspiration for any of the 4th of July events you might be hosting this upcoming weekend.  So, without further ado, let’s get to showcasing this stunning wedding – with a twist of festive, patriotic flair!

CC_LizLee

Aspen Meadows is breathtaking, don’t you think?  It was such a lovely place to host this breathtaking wedding!

CC_LizLee2

We love the subtle hints of Americana and love the couple’s choice to bring a bit of romance and balance to the red, white, and blue palette with pops of pink instead of bright reds.  Such a pretty decor!

CC_LizLee3

Next, we created drink to fit with the patriotic theme like the Strawberry and Blueberry Mojitos!  We loved that the fruit added a delicious touch – but was a super fun “patriotic” detail as well!

CC_LizLee4

Isn’t this a pretty site for a cocktail hour?  We love that the tables weren’t competing with the surrounding natural beauty.  Also, using the taller tables encourages people to mix and mingle – which is great idea for any event!

CC_LizLee5

While the interior had hints of the patriotic palette – and definitely a gorgeously, romantic vibe – the outside was a place that we took the theme over-the-top!  From this fun red, white, and blue teepee (which the kids LOVED) to the patriotic pillows on the luxe white lounge furniture.  It was the perfect way to amp up the theme!

CC_LizLee6

Of course, we made sure to serve some truly delicious eats.  The couple wanted to keep with a more casual menu with an elegant, upscale feel!  The hors d’oeuvres were definitely a reflection of that.  Yum!!!

CC_LizLee7

Such a pretty day for a wedding!  We loved putting the dinner buffet just outside the dining area – another great way to tie in the beautiful surroundings!

CC_LizLee8

We kept the romantic, yet casual, vibe going through dinner – and it was scrumptious!

CC_LizLee9

To kick off the buffet, we served some gorgeous sides like the Mixed Baby Greens Salad with Feta, Berries, Toasted Almonds, & Vanilla Bean Vinaigrette; Roasted Potatoes with Herb Salsa; and Fresh Mozzarella, Basil & Grape Tomatoes Salad.  Light and fresh – perfect for a summer party!

CC_LizLee10

Next, we get to the main courses!  House Made Corn Bread with a Sprinkle of Paprika, served with Honey Butter; Grilled Chicken with Herb & Chili Rub; and finally our AMAZING Barbecued Short Ribs.  Seriously delicious!

CC_LizLee11

Another festive touch for this party?  Fire pits which just beckoned the guests to get outside and hang out.  LOVE!

CC_LizLee12

Of course, since we have fire pits (and it’s a summer party), we just had to have our S’mores Bar complete with Hershey’s Chocolate, Graham Crackers, and Culinary Crafts Signature House Made Marshmallows!  The guests LOVED this fun station!

CC_LizLee13

And, lastly, the bride and groom chose to have this AMAZING American flag ‘cake pop’ cake for dessert which had to be my FAVORITE detail of the whole day!  It was so fun and so festive – a perfect touch for this patriotic wedding!

We loved this wedding so much and think it has so much to inspire you in planning your parties and BBQs for this holiday weekend (and all of summer parties, really)!  Happy planning, everyone!

REPOSTED FROM ROCKY MOUNTAIN BRIDE [See the original post here]:

Lindsay and Danny’s beautiful June Utah wedding at Blue Sky Utah was lovingly captured by the talented Erin Kate. Highlights from their charming wedding included the bride’s stunning Leanne Marshall gown, the vintage cake topper, all of the stump/wood details made but he bride’s grandfather that perfectly added that right touch to the wildflower theme and all the fun with their bridal party both playing cowboy and cowgirl while testing their lasso skills and their afternoon visit to Blue Sky Ranch’s Tavern! The couple had the perfect day, sunny skies and the love of all of their family and friends.

A Little bit of Q&A with the bride, Lindsay:

What your desired feel was for your wedding and why did you select your venue? Blue Sky is an incredible venue – it’s intimate, authentic and naturally stunning.

What was your favorite Mr. & Mrs. moment day of? Probably the first look. It was so special to have that moment of seeing each other for the first time, with just us two in a meadow.

What was your favorite part of your wedding? Dancing the night away!

Homemade BBQ Sauce Recipe

By | Culinary Crafts Events, Food, How To, Recipe of the Month, Recipes, Tips

It’s super easy to homemake BBQ sauce. Just add a bunch of ingredients to a pot and let it simmer! You can customize it to your taste. Add sugar, honey, or molasses to make it sweeter.  Add more apple cider vinegar to make it tangy. Anything you want! It’s perfect for the last grilling you’ll do before the weather gets too cold.

How to make homemade BBQ sauce. www.culinarycrafts.com

Ingredients

  • 4 cups ketchup
  • 1 1/3 cup honey
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large diced yellow onion
  • 1 large diced bell pepper (any color)
  • 1 TBSP Tabasco
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 TBSP garlic powder
  • 1 cap liquid smoke

How to make homemade BBQ sauce. www.culinarycrafts.com

The first thing you’ll want to do is chop up the onions and bell peppers into a large dice. Put a large pot on the stove and turn it on to a high heat. Drizzle some olive oil into the pot. Add onions and bell peppers to the pot.

How to make homemade BBQ sauce. www.culinarycrafts.com

Let the onions and bell peppers sauté and caramelize in the pan. It will usually take around 5-7 minutes. It goes a lot faster if you have a gas stove rather than electric. In the picture below, you can see the difference of when the onions and peppers first went into the pot and then when it’s ready.

How to make homemade BBQ sauce. www.culinarycrafts.com

After they’re caramelized, you’re going to deglaze the pan with the apple cider vinegar. Add it into the pot and let it steam and pick up the caramelization from the onions and bell peppers. Then add the ketchup and garlic powder to the pot.

How to make homemade BBQ sauce. www.culinarycrafts.com

Then add the brown sugar, worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, and liquid smoke to the pot.

How to make homemade BBQ sauce. www.culinarycrafts.com

Next, add the honey and mix all the ingredients together.

How to make homemade BBQ sauce. www.culinarycrafts.com

Let the pot simmer on low for about 30 min to a hour. The onions and peppers will be soft when it’s done. You can see the coloring difference in the picture on the right.

How to make homemade BBQ sauce. www.culinarycrafts.com

After it’s done simmering, you can either blend everything together for a thicker sauce or you can strain the bell peppers out for a thinner BBQ sauce. We strained it out in this one.

How to make homemade BBQ sauce. www.culinarycrafts.com

Now you can see the BBQ sauce all done. Get some ribs or chicken and get a brush and brush on the sauce on top of the ribs. Now eat and enjoy!

Venue Spotlight: Hank’s Place

By | Corporate Events, Culinary Crafts Events, Event Tips and Planning, Every Day Life at Culinary Crafts, Food, Modern Wedding Style, Hot Tips for Cool Brides, Parties, Venues We Love, Wedding Trends

Today, I am going to show you a new venue that we are LOVING!  It’s called Hank’s Place and it’s located in the beautiful Provo Canyon and it is simply stunning!  Perfect for an intimate wedding, rustic fête, or even a corporate retreat that is sure to enchant any guest – simply put, this place is AMAZING!  Check it out!

HanksPlace

Isn’t the outdoor fireplace awesome?  We love how great this space is and it truly provides an extra ordinary location that is simply breathtaking!

HanksPlace2

We made sure our hors d’oeuvres were elegant, but still had a rustic feel to match the feeling of the space – and they were as tasty as they were pretty!

HanksPlace6

How awesome is this lounge?  We love the rentals and the eclectic vibe the furniture created!

HanksPlace5

We made sure the guests had refreshing beverages too!  These Utah Lavender Lemonades were not only fabulous, but we made them with local Sugarhouse Distillery Vodka!

HanksPlace3

And, of course, to take the event to the level, we roasted a whole pig on the spit – which the guests always get a kick out of!

HanksPlace4

Isn’t this space, pretty?  Such a perfectly, magical evening!

HanksPlace7

Another, fun station our guests loved was the Fresh Hand-Pulled Mozzarella station, which we then used on our Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad!  Yum!

HanksPlace9

So, you might be wondering what we did with the pig we were roasting?  Well, after it was done, we served it with White Cheddar, Cabbage, and Mustard Slaw topped with Blood Orange Barbecue Sauce and Pickled Onions all on a House Made Cornbread Waffle.  So good!  Plus, what’s a barbecue without grilled yummy-ness?  So, we served Shrimp, Onion, and Sweet Pepper Skewers glazed with Sweet Tomato Jam and Utah Corn on the Cob with Smoked Paprika and Lime Butter – and it was SO delicious!

HanksPlace8

Our Mustard Slaw was so good!  Plus, aren’t these individual mason jars of Mary’s Gnocchi fun?  We love this dish!

HanksPlace10

Lastly, of course we had to served some super, fun desserts!  Our Southern Style Shortcake Bar served up Buttermilk Shortcake with Fresh Peaches, Chocolate Shortcakes with Strawberries, and Lemon Shortcake with Berries (and of course all of them had a generous helping of House-Made Vanilla Bean Whipped Cream!)  Plus, we just had to have a S’mores bar too!

We love this venue and had so much fun creating such a fun menu for this event!  If you are looking for an exceptional venue for a unique wedding or event, this is the place!  We loved Hank’s Place and can’t wait to do more magical events here!  Happy planning, everyone!

Repost of a Culinary Crafts Inspiration Shoot on The Luxe Pearl

By | Culinary Crafts Events, Event Tips and Planning, Every Day Life at Culinary Crafts, Featured: Culinary Crafts in the Press, Food, Modern Wedding Style, Hot Tips for Cool Brides, Wedding Trends

FROM MARY CRAFTS:
“The LDW Ranch is one of my favorite exclusive ranches in Utah. I wanted to feature an inspiration shoot at this gorgeous venue but I am over the typical “rustic”, “rustic chic”, and “mountain” weddings we have done for the past decade. As I walked the ranch, the movie: Wild Horses Can’t Be Broken” just kept coming back to me. I fell in love with the blend of this breathtaking mountain setting and the vision of vintage ranches from the 1930’s. Our path was set and this group of talented vendors were off and running to create one of the most romantic and stunning shoots I have ever done. Some of my favorite touches include: the Vintage Ice Tea Bar, Savory Macaroons and Short Breads, the leather place card napkin ties, the perfect pink vintage water goblet, and a chocolate caramel hazelnut tart that you can almost taste from the photo. Each vendor brought a unique addition to create this visual masterpiece for a complete wedding day.”

A Wedding With A Patriotic Twist!

You know, all of us here at Culinary Crafts think Utah is a great place to live.  We have BEAUTIFUL surroundings, GREAT people, and some of the most AMAZING weddings anywhere!  Plus, there’s an added bonus in July.  It isn’t just time for one fireworks-filled celebration, the 4th of July, but we get to have a second festive holiday celebration for Pioneer Day!  Well, we want to inspire you to bring a extra level of awesome to any Pioneer Day events you might be hosting this weekend by showcasing this stunning wedding – with a twist of festive, patriotic flair!

How To Make House-Made Chips

By | Food, How To, Recipes

Chips are the perfect side dish for anything this summer. Whether you’re inside or outside on a hot summer day this July, homemade chips will be perfect. It’s such a fun, personal touch when you make your own chips instead of just opening a bag. You can specialize the taste of them to whatever you want too, they’re super customizable.

How To Make House-Made Chips www.culinarycrafts.com

Ingredients

  • Potatoes (any kind, but we used russet here)
  • Seasoning (you put together to taste)
  • Canola Oil
  • Mandolin slicer

How To Make House-Made Chips www.culinarycrafts.com

First slice your potatoes with the mandolin slicer. You’ll want to use the thinnest setting so they really get the potato chip texture. Then put in a bowl and rinse the potato slices with water to get the starch off. Drain the water. Repeat 4 times, or until the water is clear.

How To Make House-Made Chips www.culinarycrafts.com

Then put the potato slices onto a towel and pat dry. Water and oil don’t mix so this step is important!

How To Make House-Made Chips www.culinarycrafts.com

After all the water is off the potato slices, it’s time to fry them! If you’re doing thin slices like what we did, anywhere from 300-350 degrees is a perfect temperature. Test one potato slice first to make sure the oil is hot enough. You’ll know it’s hot enough when the potato floats on the top instead of sinking. Make sure the slices don’t stick to each other because spots on the potato won’t be able to cook fully if they touch.

How To Make House-Made Chips www.culinarycrafts.com

It will take about 2 minutes per side, or golden brown. You’ll be able to tell when it done because the potato slices won’t be bubbling anymore. Take a strainer and scoop out the chips.

How To Make House-Made Chips www.culinarycrafts.com

Put them on a towel and let it soak up the oil, but not too much because that’s how you get the seasoning to stick to the chips.

How To Make House-Made Chips www.culinarycrafts.com

For the seasoning you can mix whatever you’d like together. You could just do salt, or you can made it more of a BBQ flavor, or whatever you’d like! For the seasoning we used, it’s a mix of sugar, salt, pepper, paprika, chili powder, ground mustard, onion powder, and garlic powder. Those are the flavors Chef Danielle likes, but you can mix it together and taste test it to make it perfect.

Take the seasoning and sprinkle it on your chips and mix thoroughly to coat evenly.

How To Make House-Made Chips www.culinarycrafts.com

Now they’re done! Enjoy your homemade chips, they will be delicious!
